I perform a license inquiry and noticed that Well built system with properly set up operating system can have as much uptime as you want. So, I opened Abaqus and then opened my cae file. Then pick PSU that would provide enough power for your system considering the parts to be heavily loaded. I have seen people using GTX1080 for neural networks, so I think you will be fine with 1060 6GB or better (1070, 1080, Titan X). As Nvidia has CUDA, which ABAQUS seems to be supporting, you will need the card that has CUDA cores (and decent amount of memory, of course). My point is, I think you would be better off with an i7 (not necessarily unlocked, as you need cores more than clock speed), motherboard that can handle 32GB of RAM (more or less - need some data about ABAQUS RAM usage). I doubt that they will perform better than, for example GTX1060 with 6GB of memory. Older Quadro cards are not that expensive, but they have 1.5/3GB of memory. New Quadro cards are equipped with tons of memory. You probably can not afford a good new Xeon. Newer Xeons with nice 16+ cores cost thousands of dollars.Īlso, older Xeons only let you run DDR3 RAM at 1600MHz (in your case RAM speed may be very important). Those Xeons are fairly cheap, but they only have 4 cores at 3.6 GHz. Most of those example builds use Xeon E5-1620, 16GB of RAM and Nvidia Quadro cards.
Nothing yet since I don't know what I need yet, but I will update this post as needed.īefore we start discussing various Nvidia CUDA cards or processors we should actually consider what will be possible to achieve with your budget. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).
Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). In what country are you purchasing your parts? Has anyone here used ABAQUS? Do I need a Xeon processor and a workstation GPU, or will an i7 and a 1080 work?ġ000$-1200$ CAD (I realize this is almost definitely not going to be enough) However, I am not familiar enough with the program to know exactly what I'm looking for.
This page lists several GPUs that are supported, and this one lists several test configurations. I don't know if ABAQUS is a CPU-intensive program, or whether it needs a workstation GPU. ABAQUS is a finite element analysis program, and the exact version I will be using is 6.14. I consider myself to be quite proficient with computers, but my uncertainty comes from my limited knowledge of ABAQUS. I am a masters' student in engineering and I will be needing a desktop computer to run ABAQUS for extended periods of time, as in 2-3 days without any sort of glitches or errors.
